This has been in the works for years and then put into the mothball section.

Of Interest:

History of the Air Fryer:

The first air fryer was created by James T. Williams in 1968 for use in kitchens. Williams wanted to simplify cooking by using a machine that could be left on for hours at a time, but instead of frying foods on an electric plate he decided to fry them inside the airfryer with hot air. The concept wasn’t original, however, because similar devices existed before this date, as early as the 1920's.

Willaims sold his rights to Hamilton Beach who had issues with it, they in turn sold their rights to George Foreman who re-designed it again. Cleaning Your Air Fryer:

There are many types of airfryers. If you want to clean an air fryer properly, the cleaning is some what the same, you will need to wash it with a special brush or a vacuum cleaner. If you use other cleaning methods, then water and dirt can accumulate on the heating element which can lead to fires or burnout problems after some time. If you do not properly clean the heating element on a frequent basis, the greasing on the frying pan can also build up and cause food to stick to it.
If your air fryer has a removable greasing tray, then you should clean it after each use. In addition, you will need to remove any grease from the bottom of the frying pan and areas as well as from any other removable parts. If you do not remove all this grease after each use, it will begin to heat up and burn which can cause serious problems for your air fryer or even an explosion and or fire inside its chamber. It is recommended that you purchase a cleaning brush which will help you clean out any leftover grease from tiny corners inside your air fryer.
Here is a website I found that explains perfectly how to clean things. How To Clean Your Air Fryer

How Does It Work:

Air Fryer:
The invention claimed as a cooking appliance:
1An air fryer for cooking a food product having a top surface and a bottom surface, comprising of:
A housing defining a cooking chamber
A conduit for circulating gas to and from the cooking chamber.
A blower for causing circulation of the gas.
A heater for heating the gas.
A first gas directing member disposed above the food product, the first gas directing member in fluid connection with the conduit; and
A second gas directing member disposed above the food product, the second gas directing member also in fluid connection with the conduit.
Wherein the first and second gas directing members cause the gas from the first gas directing member to collide with the gas from the second gas directing member upon the top surface of the food product.
A first lower gas directing member disposed below the food product; the first lower gas directing member in fluid connection with the conduit; and
A second lower gas directing member disposed below the food product, the second lower gas directing member also in fluid connection with the conduit.
Wherein the first and second lower gas directing members cause the gas from the first lower gas directing member to collide with the gas from the second lower gas directing member upon the bottom surface of the food product.
At least one pivotable food basket disposed within the cooking chamber for holding the food product, the at least one pivotable food basket secured within the cooking chamber at a basket pivot point that allows for rotation of the at least one food basket.
At least one food product agitator mounted above the at least one pivotable food basket in order to contact and stir the food product while the food product is held in the at least one food basket; and
An oil spray apparatus configured to deliver oil or an oil mixture to the food product?

I am not sure about that last part, I have never seen a spary apparatus on the newer models, I do know for the best results canoloa oil has a high smoke point, but many recipes do not require oil, just a shot of cooking spray oil is needed on the pan/frying basket.
For healtheir oils, you can use extra light olive oil, avocado, sesame oil, and grapeseed oil.

High Heat is defined as between 400°F and 600°F.
Deep Fry Heat is around 350°F and 375°F.
Air Fry Heat is around 360°F, 380°F, 390°F, 400°F.

So before asking me again. Coconut oil may work. Unrefined coconut oil tops out at 350°F while refined coconut oil tops out at 400°F

Popping Popcorn In An Air Fryer ~ This is a youtube link. Each unit varies for popping popcorn, kernels, some oil, preheated first and then a temperature of 400°F (200°C)for about 7 minutes.
You have to shake it a few times, just like on the stove in the pan.

I am glad I still have my air popcorn popper, it is a lot easier. But hey, more choices for popping popcorn.
